About PBCi

Who we are

Philippine Brethren Church Inc. is the national Brethren denomination our local churches belong to — autonomous assemblies, one shared faith, with Christ alone as Head.

What is PBCi?

PBCi is a denomination — a religious organization whose congregations are united in their adherence to shared beliefs and practices, expressed in the Brethren Statement of Faith. It is registered as a church: a non-stock, non-profit religious society under the 2019 Revised Corporation Code, before the Securities and Exchange Commission. That legal standing lets the church name be used on official documents and gives access to the benefits afforded a registered church.

The key distinctive

Decentralized & autonomous

PBCi has no centralized control. Every affiliate church enjoys full autonomy in its finances, local practices, internal leadership, the commendation of its own workers, and the discipline of its members. Centralization concentrates authority in a single person or central office — PBCi rejects that. Autonomy, the right of self-government for each local church, is affirmed in our Constitution and By-Laws. This reflects the Biblical pattern of a plurality of leaders and the autonomy of the local church (Acts 20:17; Phil. 1:1), under governing authority (Rom. 13:1).

How PBCi operates

Board of Elders

Fifteen elders drawn from different local churches, nominated from the Council of Elders, handling legal requirements and board resolutions for compliance.

Council of Elders & Workers

The general assembly of elders and commended workers from the affiliate churches — each joining church represented — assisting in conflict resolution.

Four committees

Mission

Advancing the gospel and church-planting work.

Screening

Reviewing churches applying for affiliation.

Camps & Conference

Planning the gatherings and the campsite.

Foreign & Domestic Affairs

Relations at home and abroad.

Officers include a Presiding Elder (who takes turns presiding over meetings), Treasurer, Secretary, Auditors, an Alternate Secretary, and a Spokesperson. Above every office stands the one Head of the church: Jesus Christ.

Why we organized

  • A national identity for the Brethren as a church in all public documents.
  • Care for pastors — providing a pastor's ID and aid in processing CRASM.
  • A legal identity for local churches not yet registered with the SEC.
  • Preserving Brethren teachings and the Statement of Faith.
  • Helping resolve conflicts among affiliate churches through a Biblical process of arbitration.
